How to Get a Copy of a Kootenai Court Document

Copies of court documents are issued by the district court clerk. There are two types of copies — and the difference between them is significant.

Uncertified copy — simply a printout of the document. Suitable for review. A certified copy bears the court's seal and the clerk's signature, confirming authenticity. This is usually required by other institutions, employers, or attorneys.

How to obtain a copy:

  • In person — visit the clerk's office at the courthouse.
  • By mail — send a written request with the case number, document title, and return address. Include a check or money order for the appropriate amount.
  • Online — some documents are available through the iCourt portal. Certified copies usually require direct contact with the clerk's office.

A case number or full party name is needed for the search. If you're looking for your own records, the Idaho Supreme Court recommends contacting the clerk of the county where the case was filed.
